German-born Dr Hampe is a fully Australian-trained specialist in gastroenterology, hepatology, endoscopy and internal medicine.
After completing his initial medical degree in 2004 at Germany’s oldest tertiary institution, Heidelberg University, he worked at the gastroenterology department of Heidelberg University Hospital, one of Europe’s largest medical centres. He then continued his specialist training at the Prince Charles and Princess Alexandra hospitals (Brisbane), Canberra Hospital, Gosford Hospital, and St George Hospital (Sydney).
Dr Hampe moved to the Fraser Coast for a lifestyle change and established Hervey Bay Specialists at Unit 14, 62-64 Main St, Pialba (Hervey Bay, QLD).
High-quality colonoscopy is Dr Hampe’s main interest. He has a high personal adenoma detection rate, which is associated with a decreased risk of subsequent bowel cancer. In addition to colonoscopies, Dr Hampe performs gastroscopies, flexible sigmoidoscopies, haemorrhoidal banding, oesophageal variceal banding, oesophageal dilatation and capsule endoscopies. Procedures take place in Hervey Bay, either at Hervey Bay Surgical Hospital or St Stephen’s Hospital (or in his private rooms for capsule endoscopies). Dr Hampe also offers consultations at St Stephen’s Medical Centre, Maryborough, every two weeks.
Dr Hampe is a fellow of the Royal Australasian Society of HIV, Viral Hepatitis and Sexual Health Medicine (ASHM).
